The latest addition to our ever growing portfolio ‘The Giant Kata Nordic Tipi’ is here for 2019. We have purchased our Tipis from market leader; Tentipi. We can assure you that the Tentipi product is at the forefront of tipi design and is the very best!
The Giant Nordic linkable Tipi was originally designed in Lapland by Swedish born Bengt Grahn, Bengt got his inspiration from the Sami Kata. These nomadic people used a very similar design made from wooden poles but instead was covered in animal hide unlike the modern design which uses modern light weight waterproof canvas. The Indigenous Sami people learnt quickly that the cone shape meant wind would pass by easily and snow would not settle on the roof. The Sami people also built fires inside for warmth and cooking; this can also be a feature in the modern Tipis by adding fire pits.
We hope this gives you a good insight into the origins of the The Giant Kata Nordic Tipi!
